I'm thinking of buying a welsh dresser from www.welshdressers.org.uk but it got me thinking, do I really need to spend the £800 odd it would take to buy one, or can I just 'cobble one together.'

I wasn't thinking of building it persay, but just getting some cheap base then maybe putting up shelves above it.  It would be an all in one unit, but it would have the same effect i.e shelves with a cupbaord beneath.

Would this work or look useless do you think?  Any feedback appreciated.

Hmm i'm sure they can be made, but unless you're actually good with wood, and have a certain degree of skill/experience, I doubt the end product will be very clean/good. Do you have any carpentry experience, or are you just an overall handyman?

I would personally just go to a second hand shop and pick one up. I can't imagine they'd be THAT expensive.

I personally wouldn't pay £800 for one, though.

NB

A few charity shops sell furniture very cheap, a welsh i have seen not so long ago was £85 nice job, or  the auction rooms, get out and about.
