I know afew people that rent and ive noticed however nice the property they all seem to get itchy feet and decide to end there lease... this seems to be the case with people that have children too. So Im just wondering what has been your longest staying tenant and why did they eventually leave.

I do realise i sound like im trying to stereotype tenants however i do hope to be proven wrong! :)

I had a tenant for 4 years, she was on Housing Benefit. She was great- didn't miss a single rent payment. She ended up moving because her kids got to the age where they needed thier own room. They basically needed more space, which was understandable.

Hi,
I've had tenants for 6 years with no sign of them wanting to leave.  In fact they worry that I will end the agreement.  Previously I had tenants for 3 years who left when they were made redundant.
When I first rented out my property I used an agent and found I lost tenants every 6 months since then I've gone it alone and never had the same problems.
I also rent property in France where tenants tend to stay for much longer but end up moving on for the usual 'too small' or 'can afford to buy their own property' reasons.

Currently have one who has been with us 16 years, tenants of 6 and 7 years have just moved out.  Its good in the long term but it does mean that all the renovation of kitchens and bathrooms gets saved up for one hit when they finally move on.

I know exactly what you mean.
When a longterm tenant moved out, I pretty much had to sort out the entire house- new carpets, paint the entire house..etc.

Hi Feefee ,

My longest staying tenant was with me for 5 years and never missed a payment. I've found that it really depends on the type of property (location, size etc) and what type of tenant it is. Single young men tend to move more often I think than single ladies, and both of those move more than couples do (as long as they stay together).
