Interesting article in the Bricks and Mortar section of The Times. Looking at what buyers and renters are seeking showed similar requirements for both groups. Renters put affordable rent first, closely followed by good neighbours and parking space. Gardens are the top attraction for buyers (since Covid)  and renters also seek pet-friendly homes and sound-proofing.

Energy efficiency does not seem to matter one jot to either group, which does not surprise me at all.

Contrary to the image of greedy landlords, 75% would choose to keep a good tenant who wants to renew at the same rent, rather than accept a higher offer from another. The number of new tenants seeking properties outstrips the number of homes to rent by more than 8 to 1.

Sadly there has been a big increase in the number of scams aimed at tenants.  People looking at Facebook and Gumtree for somewhere to rent are the most affected.

Riptide

8 to 1 is a high figure. Wonder where they all live at the moment.

My guess is that a lot of people who are looking are already in the sector, just looking to move somewhere cheaper or bigger.
