Hi.
Are Letting Agents allowed to hire gas fitters to work on a boiler without the landlords permission?
The boiler broke down, and I agreed for the agent to get their gas engineer to find out what is wrong.
Next contact is that the agent has sent me a bill from the gas fitter for over £700.00 for a repair.
Is it legal for them to do that? Surely they must get the landlords permission first.
I would then have had a new boiler installed. Now I have an old boiler 'reconditioned'.

Regards to all.

It depends on what your agreement with the agent says.

Mine would arrange a repair like that if the repair was urgent, for example if the issue was unsafe for the tenant. Otherwise they'd have asked me first. But that's what's been agreed between us.

And that £700 will have a healthy mark-up, in various places, you can bet on that.
