Hi folks, any advice here would be much appreciated. I'm in Glasgow, currently carrying out my compliance prior to leasing my flat. My gas fire has an issue and my electric consumer unit needs upgraded. Can these necessary improvements be claimed against tax. If so, is it the full amount I can claim. Thanks

Sorry for the double post. I posted in the wrong section initially

If you're living in the flat at the moment, no, because you'll benefit from them.

If you're not living there, and assuming that Scottish tax is still the same as English tax, yes and yes. You treat the costs as though they occurred on the first day of the first tenancy (as long as they're less than six years prior to that date).

Thanks very much. I suppose it's a bit 'chicken and egg'. I need the improvements in order to lease the flat. I'm still in the flat but I intend to lease and live abroad for a while

From a tax point of view it's not "chicken and egg", it's no.
