Dear all,

As I own my property, I have home insurance. If and when I start to let would I have to cancel my policy and transfer it to a landlords' insurance only or should the insurance company be able to amend the policy accordingly.

What happens if they is a gap between tenancy agreements for several months?

Thank you

You need buildings insurance as a minimum. You can't insure the tenants contents as they're not yours to insure.

If you have the scenario where the property is empty for several months between tenancies then you're doing landlording wrong!

I wish to rent out the house fully furnished.

Would I need to cancel my own home insurance or just apply for an add on ?

Thanks

You need to check with your insurance company. I would imagine it's a complete change of policy, but it might be easier with some companies who do both types of insurance than otherwise.

I'd check that your market wants fully furnished lets. Many people don't want a long term furnished property, while some short term lets prefer it.
