Hello world ,
I am new here so be gentle with me... I became a landlord when I inherited a property.
For 15 years now I have let a shop with a small flat above to two different tenants .. ( In Bexley borough )
The shop and flat tenants have been no trouble for the past 15 years..
The shop is a coffee bar .. no cooking.

The tenant in the flat has had her rent paid by the council direct to me since she first moved in 15 years ago..
So all in all it has been an easy experience............ till now  :-[

The local environmental health have visited our tenant upstairs and they have told me I must install
fire proofing in the floor and in the stair well wall ...
Has anyone had experience of being told to do this ???  Or can anyone recommend a firm that can do it ..

Thank you

boboff

Its not a big deal, and you should not jump to there tune to quickly.

Ask them what they need doing, ask them who do they recommend, ask for the legislation governing there authority and the relevant standards.

Then when you need to put down new carpet, use 22mm Plasterboard as underlay, put board over that, gaffa tape the joins, take an inch of the doors, put down your carpet.

The Lobby issue with the stair well should be straight forward if you have room, and will probably just need another fire door at the top or bottom of the stair well, which ever one you haven't got at the minute.

Use the time to put in a mains smoke alarm in the stair well and hallway.

But don't do it until they threaten to serve to notice.... In my opinion.
