Hello everyone

I was  subletting a room in a house share 6 months ago and my  housemates never gave me back my deposit...
I don't know what are my rights knowing that I have no contract biding me with this tenancy except some official papers like bank statements.
I have paid this deposit in cash as I was new in London and I didn't have an uk bank account at this time.
The only proofs I have are some emails where they asked me to pay the deposit and where they told me that they will make the transfer ASAP.
How can I proceed to get back my deposit ? Are my proofs sufficients to intent something against them ?
Thanks for your help

Have you asked for it back?  What did they say?

Hi
Thanks for your reply.
Yes sure I asked them but they always reply : we are going to make the transfer in the next few days... And finally nothing.
But it has been 3 weeks since the last I heard about them.
They never replied to my last emails and calls.

That's good, at least they are acknowledging they are going to give it to you back rather than they are keeping it for XYZ reason.

Ultimately you can make a small claims court claim for the money but before you put a claim in you should write, as in paper form, not email, a 'letter before action' (letter before court action) see here of how to write one.  http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/wales/consumer_w/consumer_taking_action_e/consumer_legal_actions_e/consumer_going_to_court_e/consumer_taking_court_action_e/step_one_write_a_letter_before_action.htm
