Hi, I desperately need help on an ongoing nightmare.

I have moved out from an apartment in June 2022 after the agency informed me that the landlord want to repossess the property. Since I paid my rentals 6 monthly in advance, so when we agreed on the final date, the landlord/agency need to refund me 2 month of rents, a total of £5,000.

The agency has requested me to confirm my bank details, I gave them my bank account twice.

It took more than one month for the landlord to send the money back to agency, then the agency transferred the money back to me in about a week, supposedly.

I have waited patiently for 2 weeks after the agency confirmed the money was transferred to me but no joy.

So I asked for proof of transfer, we then found out they have transferred the money to an old bank account of mine which they kept on file 2 years ago, which was closed early this year.

The account manager from the agency apologised and admitted his mistake since I have confirmed my current bank account details with him but he did not use.

They now asked their bank to request the money to be returned, but refused to pay me back while they wait.

I have confirmation letter from bank that my old account was closed and no longer accessible.

It has been more than 3 months now, I still cannot recover my money from them.

I haven't mentioned the £2,500 deposit which is an ongoing dispute as well with Mydeposit. I filed the dispute when I heard nothing from the agency regarding the deposit for more than one month despite many emails and calls, hence I filed the dispute.

Any advise will be very much appreciated.

I'd notify the agent that if they don't return the rent money as agreed you will commence legal action against the landlord (as they're the person who actually owes you the money).
I'd be tempted to include the deposit claim in the same communication.
