Hi all

If someone had a tenancy agreement which started on 25th August 2023 and the want to leave in November 2024, would they give 1 months to leave on 24th or 25th November.

Wasn't sure on the which date is correct to make it all smooth !

Many thanks

There is a lot of case law that says it can be either in practice. If it's a monthly tenancy, the tenancy period runs from 25th to the 24th unless the tenancy agreement says otherwise.

Many thanks for the replies....I appreciate its normal to give one months notice but presume someone could give more notice ie ...give notice on 1 October to quit on 25 November (to give the landlord as much notice as possible)

If the tenancy is periodic there are very specific rules about when a tenant's notice can end. But if the landlord accepts the notice it can be made valid, even if it starts off being invalid.

If the landlord and tenant agree about notice, the rules about it are pretty academic. If they don't, they're essential so check your tenancy agreement.
